(Wisconsin)-The Soul Train Music Awards provided plenty of memories and conversation for most until the next award show. This year many high school students were particularly interested in watching the show in anticipation of the announcement for a hip hop scholarship.

Students, Miona Short of Chicago and Hiwot Adilow of Philadelphia were announced by The Hip Hop Sisters Network as the first recipients of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s First Wave/MC Lyte Scholarship.

Hip-hop legend MC Lyte, founder and chair of the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, along with Lynn Richardson, president of the foundation, participated in the selection process.

Students from across the United States competed for a slot to win the first ever offered scholarships. Students first had to gain admission to UW-Madison through the first-year admissions process. Once accepted, they could then submit artistic samples to compete for the scholarship.

Short and Adilow will receive full full-tuition scholarships to help further develop their artistic abilities.
