EPS Foam Recycling

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam recycling will be available to Kalamazoo residents starting in April! The Environmental Concerns Committee is piloting a one-year program that will offer four drop-off days. Residents can drop off any amount of the accepted materials.

Volunteers will be located in the parking lot of Mayors' Riverfront Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the last Saturday of April, July, October, and January (2022).

ACCEPTED:
+ Foam labeled with a 6 symbol only
+ Foam must be in clear or translucent bags
+Food containers must be rinsed, wiped, or cleaned

NOT ACCEPTED:
-Styrofoam or sheeted insulation
-Straws or lids
-Packing peanuts

MURAL PROPOSALS:

Program volunteers are currently seeking proposals for a mural to decorate the semi-trailer that will be used to collect EPS foam. The mural will be on the side of the trailer, as well as the doors. Proposals will be accepted through March with a winner selected mid-April. The winner will be awarded $2,500 and will be provided with the paint needed.
