Majyckradio(Kalamazoo) Bullying has become a growing problem in schools across the country. A student from Santa Fe High School knows all to well the receiving end of mean comments aimed to hurt and humiliate. Mariah Romero wrote the ballad “Sometimes” (“Sometimes you don’t know what you are saying, but I’m the one who’s going to pay”) while taking part in Summer Rock Camp 2011 in Santa Fe. She and her band, ICU performed the song at the camp’s final concert.

As well as being a sponsor, Candyman Strings & Things gained national recognition with a Wanna Play? Music Makes a Difference award from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). The NAMM also honored Candyman for Best Rock School, Summer Rock Camp and Best Merchandise and Display.

Romero, explains music was very powerful in her life and would not have been able to make it through the tough times she was experiencing. She also says that music helps her to grow with life and help herself.

Romero, 15 also says teens face more pressures and problems than parents did when they were in high school. Easier access to drugs; and teens aren’t always successful in getting their voices heard by adults.
