Ahmad Sarmast was determined to create the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) in his devastated homeland, Afganistan. His vision became a reality when the school opened its doors in 2010.
This February, the students will travel to the U.S. to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall in New York. The tour is sponsored by the World Bank, the U.S. Department of State, the Carnegie Corporation, and the Asian Cultural Council.
The students will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Admission is free and no tickets are required. . At Carnegie Hall in New York, they will play at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.
