Legendary R&B Producer Carl Davis Passes

We may not recognize the name as a major contributor to music, but one man that has been responible for hosting a list of hits for the’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Legendary R&B producer, A&R man and songwriter Carl Davis passed Thursday morning at his home in Summerville, South Carolina. He suffered with lung disease.

Artists he worked with include The Chi-Lites, Barbara Acklin, Jackie Wilson, Marjor Lance, Walter Jackson, and Gene Chandler. Davis also produced Gene Chandler’s biggest hit, “The Duke Of Earl” and The Chi-Lites, “Oh Girl”. Davis became the architect for what became known as the “Chicago sound”.
