Twista brought his vintage urban swag to Kalamazoo’s Shakespeare’s Pub Saturday night. His legendary lightening-fast delivery has the speed of a real twister and caused the crowd to react as if they were one. ASAP Promotions and Shakespeare’s Pub continue to bring quality music from all genres to the area. When other venues turned away hip-hop music Shakespeare kept the door open to local hip-hop artists.
The Chicago rapper performed his classic jams “Girl Tonite,” “Overnight Celebrity” “Is That Yo Bitch” and the famous Kanye West breakthrough hit,”Slow Jamz.” He also shared a couple of tracks from his latest album, Dark Horse and some lucky fans received a free copy of Don Cannon Presents: Twista Reloaded.
Rocky VII from Battle Creek laced the stage with his Wiz Khalifa “Black & Yellow” smash hit rework, “Brown and Gold” and he performed songs from his new EP ‘<strong>Intitution'</strong>.
Matt Black &MC Friendly performed with a combination of technology and drummer Ty Beats, who joined them onstage garnering appreciation from the crowd. After the performance of “Money Hungary” from their ‘<strong><em>We Buy Gold'</em></strong> CD they gave the album away for free.
The Goodie Boy Flood collective consisting of Ms. Chyna D, Goodie Boy Flood, Ill Nature and Fuse displayed enough energy on the stage to power a few blocks of Kalamazoo. The venue was already entranced by the show when Ms. Chyna D’s verses caused an eruption of joy from the audience. Ms. Chyna D may have been the only female performer at the show but her lyrical delivery and commanding tone when she said “Oh you gonna hear me” made her gender a non-factor in pleasing the crowd.
Prime Suspects was another local hip-hop act that opened for Twista and DJ Marcutio provided intermission entertainment between performances.
