Seeding The Dream: 27th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Celebration
(Kalamazoo)-Hundreds of people were present Sunday at Chenery Auditorium for the 27th Annual Northside Ministerial Alliance, ‘Seeding The Dream and Keeping Hope Alive’, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
A plethora of community leaders from churches, higher education and elected officials were present to receive this year’s keynote speaker, Rev Kenneth James Flowers, Pastor at Greater new Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church from Detroit MI.
The celebration included a video greeting from local and state elected officials,performances from the MLK Gospel Choir, a collaborative of area churches, readings from the Bible and a presentation from the Douglass Youth Advisory Council.
In Rev. Flowers speech he shared his personal relationship he has with the King family and mother/son relationship he had with the late Corretta Scott King. Keeping the dream alive for such a time as this was the theme of Rev. Flowers powerful delivery to community members and leaders present.
“Today we celebrate what would have been the 84th birthday of our fallen leader, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was born in Atlanta, on January 15th, 1929. We celebrate his life and commemorate his legacy because was indeed a champion for freedom, for such a time is this”.
The program closed honoring Buddy Hannah, a local radio commentator on 95.5FM & 1560 The Touch, writer, mentor and community advocate as the recipient of the Reverend Dr. Otha Gilyard Community Service Award. Hannah is also an active member at Allen Chapel AME Church.
