Protesters At State Capitol

Hundreds streamed into the state Capitol early this morning when the Michigan State Police opened its doors to protesters who had been standing in line since as early as 5:30 a.m. Thousands more converge on the lawn of the State Capital as protester stand in solidarity from school teachers to union auto workers.

President Obama addressed a crowd of workers, lawmakers, union representatives and others at the Redford Township Daimler plant, on Monday.  President Obama says that right -to -work laws “have nothing to do with economics, but everything to do with politics.”

Right-to-work legislation makes it illegal to require financial support of a union as a condition of employment.

Supporters say right to work provides freedom of association for workers and a better business climate, and they’re continuing to lobby lawmakers for final passage. Those opposing the legislation say workers will be left “vulnerable” to lower wages without a  union.
