Majyck Radio-West Michigan is facing a prolonged period of hazardous winter weather, including accumulating snow, strong winds, blowing snow, extreme cold, and rapidly forming river ice. Travel conditions and outdoor exposure will be dangerous through the weekend. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected along and west of US-131 through Friday morning. West to northwest winds will continue into tonight with gusts between 30 and 40 mph, especially along the Lake Michigan shoreline. These strong winds will cause blowing and drifting snow, leading to near-zero visibility at times, particularly in open, rural, and lakeshore areas. Drivers should expect rapidly changing road conditions. Forecasters are monitoring another winter weather system with the potential to bring 4 inches or more of snow across parts of West Michigan Sunday into Sunday night. River ice is growing rapidly due to prolonged cold temperatures. This is causing quick rises on some West Michigan rivers. As even colder air arrives late this week, areas that do not typically experience river ice buildup could see impacts, including ice jams and localized flooding.Residents near rivers should continue to monitor conditions closely.
